The traditional story of 孔融让梨 became widely known through elementary education and the line 融四岁，能让梨 in the Three Character Classic. Kong Rong was a historical figure of the Eastern Han, although the familiar childhood scene is preserved as a moral anecdote rather than a modern biography.
